Manchester Utd 5 – 0 Burton Albion

Despite all their dreams reality hit Burton’s hopefuls hard at Old Trafford tonight.

Starting with a weakened line-up, albeit stronger than the one that contested the first match between the two, Manchester United were always in the driving seat.

This was re-enforced to devastating effect when Pique found Richardson in space on the left, who laid on the perfect cross for Saha to strike home. Burton toiled, but never really created a clear cut chance, only to see Silvestre tee up Rossi for a second on 22 minutes.

With the game all but over Burton pushed on after the break, giving their 11,000 travelling fans something to cheer. The goal of the night came from world cup hopeful Kieran Richardson, finishing a long run with a powerful shot to end any remaining Burton hopes.

Rossi and Giggs added further goals late on in the game as United were relentless in their dominance.

Burton will go home happy though, knowing that their bank balance is on the up and there’s a tale or two to tell the grandchildren.
